    THE IMPACT OF DETRAINING ON PERFORMANCE AND SOME OF THE BIOMECHANICAL VARIABLES IN TAEKWONDO

    Twenty players (aged 9 – 13 yrs) were divided into two equivalent groups ( 10 each ) based on ( age , height , weight , training age and the selected biomechanical variables).The 1st group ( fixed training) trained by the round house kick from ready position (stance) while the 2nd group ( variant training ) trained using different types of the skills’ execution. Both group trained there times a week (75 Minutes) for 6 weeks and measurements were taken for the post test, one week later of detraining and two weeks later of detraining, for fixed training and variant training. No significant differences were observed between the two groups in the posttest and first detraining. It is recommended that both training regimen are important to conserve the level of achieved performance after 2 weeks of detraining

    Activity of boric acid on German cockroaches: Analysis of residues and effects on reproduction

    In order to complete previous studies, boric acid (an inorganic compound) was evaluated on reproduction during the first gonadotrophic cycle (0, 2, 4 and 6 days) of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (Insecta, Dictyoptera). The compound was incorporated into the diet and orally administrated at two concentrations 8.2 and 49.6% corresponding to LC50 and LC90, respectively. The observed effects were correlated with the amount of boric acid detected into the body. Data showed that boric acid reduced the number of oocytes per paired ovaries and the size of basal oocytes. Furthermore, the compound was examined on ovarian contents of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. Results from biochemical analyses revealed a significant reduction of ovarian constituents with the two tested doses. Finally, the quantity of boric acid really incorporated into the body was determined for the two tested doses (LC50 and LC90) during the first six days of the adult life. The amounts of residues incorporated into the body increased as a function the doses and the period of treatment

    THE MOST ECONOMICAL CONFIGURATION OF PUSHED BARGE CONVOY SYSTEM THROUGH CAIRO-ASWAN WATERWAY

    In the recent years, as a result of the economical situation in Egypt, fuel price is rapidly increased. Consequently, the cost of cargo transport is also increased. Therefore, the aim of the present paper is to check the feasibility of a pushed barge convoy system working through Cairo-Aswan waterway as an alternative mean of cargo transport in order to encourage the transport companies to transport their cargoes through river Nile which is considered the cheapest transport mode in Egypt. In this paper, the current situation of the river transport and the characteristics of the Egyptian inland waterways network are reviewed and investigated to identify the navigation problems and constraints which affect the navigation through Cairo-Aswan waterway. The basic concept of ship controllability is reviewed to clarify the maneuver characteristics of a pushed barge convoy system in shallow waterways. Also, different configurations for pushed barge convoy system are proposed and the required power of each configuration is calculated using a specially developed computer program. A technical and operational measure called transport efficiency is used as a criterion to get the most economical configuration of the desired pushed barge convoy system. Finally, a comparison between the pushed barge convoy system and the existing river transport means in Egypt is made to clarify the feasibility of using pushed barge convoy system through Cairo-Aswan waterway

    The Relationship Between Islamic Work Ethics and Organizational Commitment

    This study investigates the relationship between Islamic work ethics and organizational commitment. In this study, Islamic work ethics was treated as independent variables. organizational commitment as a dependent variable. A questionnaire survey of 63 employees working in Jawwal Telecommunication Company in Palestine. The reliability analysis show that the Cronbach's Alpha value for all the variables under study were satisfactorily acceptable except for normative commitment (.542). Due to a very low reliability for normative commitment, the item was removed from the study and was not considered for futher analysis. The descriptive analysis of the variables especially the mean value for Islamic Work Ethics, affective commitment and continuance commitment (where the responses were tapped on the 5 point likert scale) were all above moderate and towards agreement. However, the results from correlation analysis show no significant relations between Islamic Work Ethics and Organizational Commitment

    Phytochemical, antimicrobial, antioxidant and antigenotoxic potentials of Cyperus rotundus extracts

    AbstractThe aqueous, ethyl acetate, methanolic and Total Oligomer Flavonoids (TOF) enriched extracts, obtained from the aerial parts of Cyperus rotundus, were investigated for their contents in phenolic compounds. Antioxidative activity using the NBT/riboflavin assay system, antimicrobial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial reference strains as well as antigenotoxic activity tested with the SOS chromotest assay were also studied. Significant antibacterial activity against reference strains; Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium, was detected in the presence of ethyl acetate and TOF enriched extracts. In addition to their antimicrobial activity, the same extracts showed a significant ability to inhibit nitroblue tetrazolium reduction by the superoxide radical in a non enzymatic O2.− generating system, and were also able to reduce significantly the genotoxicity induced by nifuroxazide and Aflatoxin B1. The antioxidant, antimicrobial and antigenotoxic activities exhibited by C. rotundus depend on the chemical composition of the tested extracts

    A Multiband Printed Antenna Suitable for Wireless Applications

    This study deals with a new research work on a low cost multiband printed antenna which can be used for three operating frequency bands GSM900/PCS/WIFI/Bluetooth. The achieved antenna is mounted on an FR-4 substrate. In this study, the solts technique is used to obtain the multiband behavior. The different solts are inserted in the radiator face and the back face that is the ground. The whole circuit is optimized taking into account the good matching of the input impedance in the operating frequency bands with a stable radiation pattern. In order to optimize the proposed antenna structure we have used CST-MW and to compare the obtained simulation results we have conducted another electromagnetic simulation by using HFSS solver. The final circuit validated into simulation has been fabricated and tested which permits to validate the proposed multiband antenna

    A prospective, randomised comparison of continuous paravertebral block and continuous intercostal nerve block for post-thoracotomy pain

    Background: This study aimed to compare paravertebral block and continuous intercostal nerve block after thoracotomy.Methods: Forty-six adult patients undergoing elective posterolateral thoracotomy were randomised to receive either a continuous intercostal nerve blockade or a paravertebral block. Opioid consumption and postoperative pain were assessed for 48 hours .Pulmonary function was assessed by forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) recorded at 4 hours intervals.Results: With respect to the objective visual assessment (VAS), both techniques were effective for post thoracotomy pain. The average VAS score at rest was 29±10mm for paravertebral block and 31.5±11mm for continuous intercostal nerve block. The average VAS score on coughing was 36±14mm for the first one and 4 ±14mm for the second group. Pain at rest was similar in both groups. Pain scores on coughing were lower in paravertebral block group at 42 and 48 hours. Post-thoracotomy function was better preserved with paravertebral block. No difference was found among the two groups for side effects related to technique, major morbidity or duration of hospitalisation.Conclusion: We found that continuous intercostal nerve block and paravertebral block were effective and safe methods for post-thoracotomy pain.

    m-Path:An easy-to-use and highly tailorable platform for ecological momentary assessment and intervention in behavioral research and clinical practice

    In this paper, we present m-Path (www.m-Path.io), an online platform that provides an easy-to-use and highly tailorable framework for implementing smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and intervention (EMI) in both research and clinical practice in the context of blended care. Because real-time monitoring and intervention in people's everyday lives have unparalleled benefits compared to traditional data collection techniques (e.g., retrospective surveys or lab-based experiments), EMA and EMI have become popular in recent years. Although a surge in the use of these methods has led to a myriad of EMA and EMI applications, many existing platforms only focus on a single aspect of daily life data collection (e.g., assessment vs. intervention, active self-report vs. passive mobile sensing, research-dedicated vs. clinically-oriented tools). With m-Path, we aim to integrate all of these facets into a single platform, as it is exactly this all-in-one approach that fosters the clinical utility of accumulated scientific knowledge. To this end, we offer a comprehensive platform to set up complex and highly adjustable EMA and EMI designs with advanced functionalities, using an intuitive point-and click web interface that is accessible for researchers and clinicians with limited programming skills. We discuss the strengths of daily life data collection and intervention in general and m-Path in particular. We describe the regular workflow to set up an EMA or EMI design within the m-Path framework, and summarize both the basic functionalities and more advanced features of our software

    Kaposi sarcoma is a mesenchymal tumor associated to a human herpes virus-8. It often occurs in human immunodeficiency virus-positive subjects. Colorectal localization is rare.     Nutritional Practices of Athletes in Oman: A Descriptive Study

    Objective: Adequate dietary intake is crucial for optimum training and performance of athletes. There is almost no available information related to dietary practices among Omani athletes, especially during the competition. This study aimed to assess the nutritional practices (nutritional knowledge, eating habits and daily nutrients intake) among Omani male handball athletes in Muscat city, Oman.Methods: This is a cross sectional study including 35 male handball athletes involved in serious training for no less than three years. Data collection was done through personal interviews using a study questionnaire which enlisted questions relating to socio-demographic information, anthropometric measurements and nutritional practices. All the study participants declared no intake of anabolic steroids.Results: The mean age of the study participants was 27 ± 3 years. Their anthropometric assessment revealed that their mean height was 166 ± 12 cm, mean weight was 75 ± 10 kg, and body mass index was 27 ± 3. Nutritional knowledge analysis revealed that 80% had no nutritional supervision by a nutritionist/dietitian. Their knowledge of nutritional requirements was only 23% correct for total energy intake, 63% for protein intake, 46% for carbohydrate intake, 11% for fat intake and 83% for water intake. Eating habits indicated that 55% had <3 meals/day, 51% had lunch as the principal meal, 51% always added extra salt to their food, 28% took protein supplements on a daily basis, and 51% used pre-competition glycogen load diet. However, none consumed vitamins or mineral supplements. The mean daily caloric intake was 3674 ± 265 kcal/day, which was roughly comprised of 596 ± 66 g carbohydrates, 147 ± 28 g of protein and 78 ± 20 g of total fat.Conclusion: Professional nutritional supervision is needed in order to improve the nutritional knowledge and eating habits of Omani athletes, and therefore improve their athletic performance
